After all the wrangling about money, the ball in the will-he-won’t-he roulette game of Mickey Rourke playing a villain in Iron Man 2 appears to have settled into a “yes” slot.
According to gossip hound Nikki Finke, Rourke’s agent, David Unger has finally gotten Marvel to crack.
“After at first being low-balled by the studio to the tune of $250K, Rourke has signed on for the role of the Russian villain in the sequel after his agent David Unger got the quote up to a ‘significant’ level despite this punishing economic climate where the studios are taking advantage of talent.”
There’s no confirmation yet, of course, but the piece mentions he’s playing the “Russian villain”, so that’ll be Crimson Dynamo, since most of the many incarnations of the character in the Marvel universe have been Ruskies.
There’s even more intriguing info buried at the bottom of the piece, which goes on to say that Sony had been considering him for the bad guy in Spider-Man 4.
Which leads us, naturally, to wonder just which character he might have been playing, and what that means for the next Spidey outing. Kraven the Hunter, anyone?
