Katie Holmes is Afraid Of The Dark

Katie Holmes has signed on for Guillermo del Toro’s latest push to develop a horror thriller – Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark.

As if he wasn’t already busy enough working on The Hobbit and about 7,000 other projects, the one-man production company has set one of his protégés – comic book artist-turned-director Troy Nixey to helm the film.

Del Toro and writing collaborator Matthew Robbins have penned Dark, based on a ‘70s TV movie about a young girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend, only to discover the house holds demonic beasties.

While Nixey hasn’t made a film before, he did direct a short – Latchkey’s Lament, which blends CG animation and live action to follow the story of a pair of married keys kidnapped by an evildoer known as the Keyfiend (above).

It might not sound horrific, but there’s at least one gruesome death – and del Toro apparently liked the tone enough to bring Nixey on board.
