Ronaldo Leo, father of Ileana is a Roman Catholic father and her mother Samira is a Muslim. Her first name Ileana (Helen of Troy) comes from Greek mythology. She has three siblings - older sister Farrah, younger brother Rhys and youngest sister Eileen. While growing up, she lived in Goa for about seven years. Illeana started her career as a model and has acted in several advertisements such as Electrolux, Emami Talc and Fair and Lovely, and she was directed by Rakesh Roshan, who gave her exposure and brought in several offers for acting in feature films. Actually, D'Cruz was called for an audition by director Teja in 2005, but unfortunately that project was cancelled. Finally in 2006, she made her feature film debut in the Telugu language romance film Devadasu, directed by Y. V. S. Chowdary. Devadasu had become the year's first major commercial success, and also Ileana was honored with the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debutant for it. Her other film, Pokiri was a huge financial success, emerging the highest-grossing Telugu film of all time until then, and it gave Ileana's biggest commercial success. She was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Telugu for Jalsa (2008) and Kick (2009). Also, there are some films which didn't fare well at the box office, but Ileana continued to be the highest paid actress of South India. During her six-year-long career span in the regional industry, Ileana always desired for roles that gave her scope to do more than dance and look pretty in Bollywood. Eventually, she found her place under the B-town sun and Ileana made her Hindi debut with Anurag Basu directorial Barfi!, alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.
