Could Kenneth Branagh have found a Thor?

Posted By totalfilm.com on Mar 10, 2009   FROM: rss.feedsportal.com report abuse

www.iesb.net/index.phpSuperhero rumours are flying thick and fast again today as word comes that Kenneth Branagh has been taking meetings with actor Alexander Skarsgard… And it could mean he’s the director’s choice to fill Thor’s winged helmet.

Of course, as the guys at Latino Review admit, it’s still nothing more than speculation. Directors take lots of meetings with actors. But to look at the man (yes, he's Stellan's son) – who has appeared in Iraq War miniseries Generation Kill and vampire drama True Blood – he’s definitely visually right for the role.

And adding fuel to the fire, fellow site IESB has been hearing the same things, though they’re throwing GI Joe's Channing Tatum into the mix.

But more interestingly, they’ve also heard that Josh Hartnett has also been meeting the director – this time for the role of Thor’s half-brother and archenemy, Loki. He's on a short list, apparently.

The site’s sources say he might be willing to take on his fist villainous role thanks to Heath Ledger’s searing work as the Joker (and his posthumous Oscar can’t have hurt, either).

Naturally, there’s zero confirmation on any of this, so we’re filing it strictly as rumour and speculation.

What do you think? Does Skarsgard look the part? Could Hartnett tackle a villain? Comment!
