Cannes 2009: White Ribbon scoops the Palme dOr

Signalling that Cannes is over for another year, the awards have been handed out, with Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon nabbing the top prize.

The heavily acclaimed drama from a Cannes-beloved filmmaker scored the main gong, while Jacques Audiard prison pic A Prophet took the Grand Prix.

Other notable awards went to Andrea Arnold’s Fish Tank (below), which tied with Park Chan-wook’s Thirst for the Jury Prize.

Acting accolades, meanwhile, went to Christoph Waltz, for his turn as Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds and Charlotte Gainsbourg for surviving Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist.
