News keeps on coming through in Cannes about lots and lots of actors appearing in lots and lots of films. It’s what they do. So in order to teach the filmmakers out here one or two things about brevity, we’re going to do a quick breakdown: Gemma Arterton – who seems to be in everything these days and would have been great in Good Will Hunting – has landed the role of Cathy in an adap of Bronte’s Wuthering Heights. She’s English. Which original actress attached Natalie Portman isn’t. Good. Brighton Rock – it’s a book by Graham Greene, kids – is to star Control’s Sam Riley and up-and-coming Carey Mulligan. It’s about a gangster marrying a witness.
The bloke who wrote Milk – Dustin Lance Black – is directing his first film, What’s Wrong With Virginia, with Good Will Hunting legend Gus Van Sant doing the exec producing thing. Liam Neeson and Jennifer Connelly star. It’s about love and a sheriff. Total Film favourite Paddy Considine has teamed up with impression man Michael Sheen for Submarine, all about a boy wanting to pop his cherry while lots of other stuff is going on. Finally, great news. Georgia – less than a year after the Russia conflict – has opened its doors to filmmakers again. Go go go!
