Ron Howard’s latest venture into Dan Brown’s religio-thriller world, Angels And Demons, nabbed $48 million at the US box office, according to estimates. That’s significantly lower than the $77 million opening of first film The Da Vinci Code, but then even the studio seems to have been prepared for that idea. And the film is performing much better outside the US. The freshly revitalised Star Trek, meanwhile, gave up the top spot, but only just – with a healthy 46% drop, it still took in $43 million and is now the most successful Trek movie across the pond with $148 million in the bank. In fifth place, Obsessed took in $4.5 million. The top 10 in easy-to-glance-at chart form… Angels & Demons ($48 million) Star Trek ($43 million) X-Men Origins: Wolverine ($15 million) Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past ($6.8 million) Obsessed ($4.5 million) 17 Again ($3.4 million) Monsters Vs Aliens ($3 million) The Soloist ($2.4 million) Next Day Air ($2.2 million) Earth ($1.7 million [Data Source: Box Office Mojo]
