Michael Phelps Down: Phelps 1st beat since 2005

Olympic's great Michael Phelps has lost 1st major World Swimming Championships in Rome after a long time!! In last four years, this is the first time Michael Phelps touched the wall second at a major international competition. And it was his swimsuit that did him in.

200- Meter freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in Rome was won by German Paul Biedermann. Germany’s Paul Biedermann set a world record and beat Michael Phelps to win the 200 meters freestyle final at the world swimming championships on 28th July. After Biedermann stunned the swimming world by breaking Ian Thorpe's once-untouchable world record in the 400-meter free, Phelps seemed resigned to the loss earlier this week. Bidermann has sliced seconds off his times in a sport where dropping tenths is considered as a major achievement with his Arena x-Glide suit.

Michael Phelps was wearing the once-revolutionary Speedo LZR, which has now been far surpassed by the good spirits and constancy of the new polyurethane-based Arena and Jaked suits. For competition starting next year, FINA has banned those suits, a necessary move, but one that comes too late to stop the world record binge in Rome.

For Biedermann's victory, the suit will be extensively credited; the loss is not crushing for Phelps. As we know, his international reputation is based on Olympics, not world championships. He won a silver medal and it is a bitter pill to consume but maybe a beneficial one for the greatest swimming champion of all-time. At least he is not in danger of getting complacent.
