Madonna still wants to adopt Mercy. The singer has reaffirmed that she will appeal the recent ruling that blocked her bid to adopt three-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James from a Malawian orphanage. "I want to provide Mercy with a home, a loving family environment and the best education and health care possible," the 50-year-old underlined this week.

On 3 April, judge Esme Chombo refused Madonna's adoption request, finding that she did not meet the country's standards of residency. Malawian law says that prospective parents must live in the country for 18 to 24 months so that they can be assessed by authorities.
