Kara Kennedy Allen lung cancerTed Kennedy’s only daughter Kara Kennedy Allen was fighting lung cancer from 2003 and is currently in remission. In late 2003, Kara was identified with not curable lung cancer. The mother of two young children, Kara was only 42 year old at that time. Everybody is well known about Ted Kennedy’s family has been unusually affected by cancer but for his daughter, his role in being an advocate with lung cancer is gratifying. In 2002, sitting with his daughter, Ted Kennedy found her diagnosis of inoperable lung cancer – a diagnosis that counts survival rate in months rather than years – unacceptable. That’s why Ted, himself took matters into his own hands like he found doctors, researched the disease, and at last he found a surgeon he could put his faith in to remove Kara’s tumor. Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s Dr. David. J. Sugarbaker, was able to remove her cancer, and following chemotherapy, she is still with us today. She was also done chemotherapy, and still, she is with us today. Ted Kennedy’s support went beyond being his daughter’s patient advocate. Every day, he prayed for her and also encouraged his daughter in her faith. Today, as we know Ted Kennedy has dead!!!!! About the stage of Kara’s lung cancer, I am totally unaware. As long as Kara, most people diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer do not survive, for everyone, surgery is not an option despite our best efforts. But not accepting a first opinion in the Kara’s case at least and being a participant in rather than a recipient of healthcare, was important. |
