It is always good to know when forthcoming Bank Holidays fall for planning a special occasion or just booking a trip. The Bank holidays are public holidays in Ireland! Here is provided the list of Ireland public holidays 2010. On a public holiday in Ireland, commonly called as a bank holiday, people celebrate a special day or other event when banks and many other businesses are closed for the day. The expected dates of bank and public holidays in Ireland for 2010 are listed below.

Owing to the fact that Ireland is not subdivision part of the United Kingdom, all country has different set of public holidays. During these days, employees can obtain extra pay for working service while banks and many other businesses are shut for the day.

Irish bank holidays 2010

New Year's Day – January 1st:

By going to favorite Pub, many Irish celebrate New Year's night in their favorite Pub. For the New Year's celebrations, only in some of the bigger towns are fireworks used. There is a custom called the "New Year's Swim" in some parts of the south of Ireland.

St. Patrick's Day (March 17th):

The St. Patrick's Day, a public holiday falls on March 17th and its celebrations take place from March 15 until March 18 (4 days period). It is one of the biggest annual festival in Ireland. On this day, you can find the celebration of the Irish patron Saint and street theatre, fireworks, international carnival, bands and Irish music. Bank Holidays (First Monday in May, June & August and last Monday in October):

Most businesses and all banks are shut on Bank Holidays. President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared a bank holiday in 1933 to help to stop the money panic in the nation. So originally, it was initiated in the United States for intention of the depositors had been withdrawing their funds with such speed that many banks ran out of money to pay over the counter.

Now, the Bank holiday serves as a day off for employees and many Irish people plan their annual leave around these days.
