After staring down James Cameron’s Avatar at the BAFTAs on Sunday evening, Kathryn Bigelow’s Hurt Locker Oscars’ prospects have considerably risen. The film, about a bomb defusal soldier in Baghdad, has taken the critics, if not the paying public, by storm. Dwarfed by Avatar’s proported $500 million budget it is seen as proof that films made on small budgets, in the Hurt Locker’s case only $15million, can stand neck and neck with Hollywood juggernauts. |
