How to Put a DVD on iTunes?

I have a lot of DVDs that I want to watch on my iPod. Here is the question, I don't know how to put a DVD on iTunes, is there any easy way to do that? And I know a third-part DVD converter is required but i really don't know which one should i choose, any suggestion?
