
n a press release made available on Friday, Warner Bros Interactive announced that the video game, produced by Turbine, will move from its subscription model to a more predominantly free to play model. Lord of The Rings Online was very highly regarded by critics, gaining a rating of 86% from games review aggregate website Metacritic. The model, which is the same one used on Turbine's Dungeons and Dragons Online, gives free players access to most of the game's content while giving subscribers extra content and free credits for use in the ingame store. Similar models have been becoming more popular with MMO producers, and are seen as a way to give players an extended "trial" of video games, and have proven to be more successful in attracting new subscribers than play-only models.
