The popular and loved features of SimCity are merged with social interaction and social city building. Electronic Arts told that there are no linear paths to be followed in the game. The cities are supposed to progress as a direct result of players' choices, this gives more creative freedom to the players. Players act as mayor of the cities and deal with unexpected issues such as crime, fires and pollution. The players can also visit a friend’s city. With the help of dynamic friend and foe system, they can select to create friendly relationships or develop a rivalry with other cities.

The game also has sponsored content, so that players can send branded boosts to fellow players. These branded boosts can be used or stored for required ‘energy’. The company will be adding sponsored bonuses across the year. Fans of SimCity can go to www.facebook.com/simcitysocial and ‘Like’ the game and then get access to free in-game exclusive content. This game already has over 750,000 fans. The company has also announced that in February 2013 it will launch a boxed-product iteration of the game for PC.
