There are a very few tag lines in today’s world that matches up to the product it endorses. But “Shuddho Suchi, Sustho Ruchi” aptly describes what Asian Paints Sharad Sammanhas brought in to Kolkata’s “Sorbojanin Durga Puja Utsav”. It can be accused of bringing in competition amongst the organizers, but the reward and more importantly the recognition and the prestige that a Puja receives by winning the award makes the hard work even more fruitful.
There was a time, when Asian Paints started giving away the ‘Sharad Samman’; and G.D. Pharmaceuticals followed next. At that time all the puja organizers used to be excited, local residents everywhere remained in expectation that they may win the ‘Sharad Samman’ award. There were three categories at first – an award each for pandal decoration, lighting and the idol of Goddess Durga; each category had three winners – first, second and third place winners. The award giving company used to call noted cultural celebrities to select the best.
