The 11-year-old, Supatra Sasuphan from Thailand was officially recognized as the "World's Hairiest Girl". Previously, she was teased by her classmates about her look and taunted by names like "monkey face" and 'wolf girl'. However, little girl finally has a reason to celebrate about a genetic condition that responsible for excessive hair growth on her face, back, arms and legs, as she is inducted as the world's hairiest girl into the Guinness Book of World Records. Image Source: nyc.barstoolsports.com Supatra was born with a congenital disease, Ambras syndrome or hypertrichosis that has been recognized in fewer than 50 people all over the world. The condition is triggered by a chromosome mutation and makes growth of hair all over the body including face, neck, arms since the Middle Ages. Sufferers were branded as 'werewolves' previous to the disease discovered as Ambras. Recently, there is no treatment for this condition and for Supatra, no hair removal methods have been successful. When Supatra was a toddler, several rounds of laser hair removal treatments had been tried by doctors but no result was found and her tresses grew back every time. Supatra told the Daily Mail, "I'm very happy to be in the Guinness World Records. A lot of people have to do a lot to get in. All I did was answer a few questions and then they gave it to me. There were a few people who used to tease me and call me monkey face but they don't do it any more. I'm very used to this condition. I can't feel the hair as it has always been like this. I don't feel anything." |
