A Vietnam store, Westcom Electronics has put up a 15-foot amazing Christmas tree in front of their store to raise awareness about ecological impact of dangerous waste materials such as mobile phones. This Christmas tree is made from over 2500 unusable mobile phones by 10 employees. It took 2 weeks to make this 32 layers glittering, cone-shaped tree which lights up at night. Daily 700 to 800 people come to see this tree and many of them took pictures of it.
Westcom Electronics will auction this amazing Christmas tree in 2012 and the amount raised from it will be given for charity. Even bigger mobile phones Christmas tree is being planned for 2012. In Vietnam, more than 10 million mobile phones are in circulation but the government doesn't accumulate any data about how many old phones are dumped yearly so it is impossible to know it. Vietnam's Environment Administration welcomed the attempt to raise awareness but Westcom Electronics has dishonored the law of Vietnamese which asks for government approval before using dangerous waste for new purposes.
