Controversial US rapper Akon has certainly forgotten the lessons learnt after brawls erupted at his Australian concert last year. At Brisbane's RNA Showground's main arena on Saturday night the headline artist for urban music festival Supafest threw himself into the crowd, inciting a stampede of young teenagers. The force of the swarming crowd saw hordes of young teenage girls, aged between 13 and 15, trampled and carried by security guards to waiting paramedics. But it seems last year's riot did weigh on Akon's mind as he asked the crowd to "behave". "If anything goes wrong they're going to blame it on me," he said. "Do you know how hard it was for me to get here this time?"Akon, who has previously come under fire for performing a sexually explicit dance onstage with a 14-year-old girl in Trinidad, promised to host a night of "clean fun". "I had to promise immigration that there would be no incident this time," he told the crowd. But he did not seem to contemplate the consequences of hurling himself into a crowd dominated by young teenage girls at the all-ages concert. |
