NET,SLET Compulsort for Teaching and MPhil,Phd:UGC

NET/SLET: After first diluting the stranded of MPhil/PhD by doing away with the criterion of National Eligibility Test (NET),UGC on Wednesday said NET/state Level Eligibility Test (SLET) will remain the minimum Eligibility condition for appointment of lecturers in universities/college and other higher educational institutions.

When these question were repeatedly asked by reporters on Wednesday,UGC chairperson Sukhdeo Thorat came up with a completely different interpretation. He said, "The committee will look into the cases of those who are already doing MPhil/PhD Those not found eligible will have to take NET."

Universities across the country will have to make NET/SLET mandatory
Nither HRD ministry nor UGC notified it for more than two years. in the meantime, thousands of students enrolled for MPhil/PhD without clearing NET. As part of this, from Maharashtra alone, more than 4,000 students were exempted from NET.

The new regulation helps those who completed the research and have joined service. It exempts those who are already in service on the basis of MPhil/PhD as they joined service before this notification.

The big change is that once the evaluation process is over and MPhil/PhD degree has been awarded, a soft copy of the thesis will be submitted to the UGC within a month for hosting on the website. This will create a repository of thesis on various subjects and help future scholars in knowing what areas have already been researched.

Test (NET) to determine eligibility for lectureship and for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals in order to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and research. The Test is conducted in Humanities (including languages), Social Sciences, Forensic Science, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Applications and Electronic Science.
