established on sep 7, 1990 to cater to the long - felt of the southern most districts to Tamilnadu : tirunelveli,tuticorin and kanyakumari was named after the poet latureate and scholar professor p.sundaram pillai.the maninmaniam sundaranar university has strong network of over 80 affiliated colleges ,4 mano colleges ,and two constituent cilleges ,many of these colleges contributed significantly the cause of higher education of six colleges including sarah tucker college palayamkottai the oldest women's college in the state , are over 100 years old.
