Central Scientific Instruments Organization (CSIO) was established in 1959 at Delhi but after move in Chandigarh. The main objects of this institute are to research, design and development of scientific and industrial instruments. It is only one essential institute in India for the research and development. The council has also helping in build of new schools for research and enlarging facilities for research by giving grants, training of research personnel etc.

CSIO is a multi-disciplinary organization which having well equipped laboratories with highly qualified and well trained staff for infrastructural facilities in the areas of microelectronics, optics, applied physics, electronics and mechanical engineering.

The main objects of the Council:

1. Guidance, Promotion and coordination of scientific and industrial research in India

2. Financing the specific research activities.

3. Scientific study of problems affecting industries and trade

4. Award of Research Fellowships

5. It organizes workshops, establish new laboratories and maintain it

6. Publication of scientific papers

7. Collection of information about the research.

8. Assist formulation and coordination of policies and procedures related to the development of the instrument industry
