An increase in the number of applicants this year. Last year, when the test was conducted for the first time, approximately 11,000 students took the CLAT,” informed Veer Singh, vice-chancellor, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.
Attributing this increase to the growing demand for legal services, he said, “Globalisation created the demand for legal services and the economic meltdown has given it another boost.” Moreover, added Singh, there has also been an increase in the number of law schools participating in the test. “Last year, only seven law schools participated. This year, the schools from Kochi, Lucknow, Raipur and Patiala have also joined in,” he said.
