An all-over-the-map Mayor Bloomberg warned Wednesday that teacher layoffs are coming. Or not. And then he said educators are looking around for new jobs anyway. "We're playing with fire," he said. "And we want to have our workforce as motivated as possible." The mayor has said for weeks that Gov. Cuomo's budget, which he says slashes $1.4 billion from the city schools, could cut deeply into the city's corps of 75,000 teachers. Asked yesterday how many would get pink slips, Bloomberg said, "It'll be thousands, but I cannot give you an answer yet until we work with the governor." |
