Beach to Beacon 2009 registration closed less than two hours after it opened online at noon on Sunday, March 15. Registering online is already the preferred method for 85 to 90 percent of the 5,500-runner field, which prompted race officials to forego the previous practice of printing and mailing paper applications to each of the previous year’s entrants.

The Beach to Beacon 10k is a great destination race, especially for a race of such a short distance. An extra 500 slots were open for this year's race, but the volume for online registration was unprecedented. A number of people reported having trouble getting online because the website was overwhelmed.
Registration for the Kids Fun Run also will be conducted online only, and will close once 500 children are registered. Registered runners will still receive a printed “confirmation brochure” during the summer containing race details, directions and other information.
The race begins near the Crescent Beach entrance on Route 77 in Cape Elizabeth, winds past breathtaking ocean vistas, and ends at the historic Portland Head Light at Fort Williams Park. This year is the 11 year at TD Banknorth Beach to Beacon, one of Maine's premiere sporting events and one of the most popular events on the U.S. road race circuit.
The race is very popular, and selling out last year in about 24 hours, and this year for around 110 minutes, despite allowing a field which is 9% higher than last year.
