The last of the golden age screen goddesses and Hollywood’s most legendary leading actress Lauren Bacall died Tuesday at age 89 in New York at home in the Dakota, the famous Upper West Side building that overlooks Central Park in Manhattan. She was a star in Broadway plays and musicals. The actress,known for her husky voice and sultry presence, made her screen debut opposite Bogart at age 19 in "To Have and Have Not"– a film in which she also memorably said, "You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and Blow”.
Bogart Estate’s official Twitter tweeted “With deep sorrow, yet with great gratitude for her amazing life, we confirm the passing of Lauren Bacall”. Her death was confirmed by Robbert de Klerk, the co-managing partner of the Humphrey Bogart Estate with her son Stephen Bogart. Reached by telephone at her Santa Monica home, her daughter, Leslie Bogart, said that the family was not able to share any additional information at this time.
