Sonia Sotomayor Judicial PhilosophySonia Sotomayor of 54 is a federal judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. On May 26, 2009, President Barack Obama nominated a Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the U.S. Supreme Court and she will replace retiring Justice David Souter. She has been called as “one of the ablest federal judges currently sitting” and she is a role model of ambition, discipline, commitment, intellectual prowess and integrity. She has been prosecutor and a corporate litigator and she is an eminent graduate of two of America's leading universities. Sotomayor spoke of her judicial philosophy by saying that I don’t believe we should bend the Constitution under any circumstance. We should do honor to it. Her record on the Second Circuit holds true to that statement. Since joining the Second Circuit Sotomayor has honored the Constitution, the rule of law and justice. She believes that the role of the court is to set policy which is exactly the philosophy and right to be heard in the court on critical issue. This appointment would provide a base for confirmed judicial activist to impose her personal policy and beliefs.
