Nandan Nilekani Blog Today’s Blog Article

“As you may have heard, I have been appointed as the Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India. I am happy for all your congratulations and best wishes.

I can no longer comment on government policy in my new role. So this means the end of this blog. The bloggong format was new for me and I really enjoyed script here and listening to your thoughts these past few months.

Many people have asked me accepted this appointment. I have long been a Champion of a change that is comprehensive of the poor, and in my book, I expressed single identity as one of the key steps for achieving this goal. Give every citizen of India a unique ID number can go a long way in enabling direct benefits and fixing weak public delivery systems, to give the poor access to better health care, education and welfare safety. When Prime Minister Manmohan Singh offered me the chance to head UIDAI, I saw it as an opportunity to give the ideas I have supported for a long time.

Since UIDAI aims to provide a people-centered approach to leadership, I will address the deployment of the initiative in the same way. I have been overwhelmed in recent weeks, and offer help and assistance of Indians around the world. The UIDAI will be to create a web page soon that will identify ways for people to volunteer and become involved in the project. I hope that together we will be able to make this initiative a great success.

Implementation of AADHAR

Hi Sir,

Congratulation for AADHAR. And best wishes for implementation of UID project.

I know implementation of this project is very tough and laborious job. More than 100+ cr.people have to be scanned & give them an identity.

While given an Identity to a person , is really an Indian or what? What documents are used to prove that the person is really Indian ? Like ration card, Pan card,Elecation card etc…

In India if you spend some 100 of rupees , you will get ration card ,so this document is really proof document . No it can't. It's really tough.

Par ally we can do one thing every hospital will be equipped with UID project,( which should be compulsory by law) , so that new born baby will be given new U.Identification. I think this is one of the root source of identification of Indian citizen ,so that hospitals has to be implemented first or simultaneously.

Any way there are may things to be considered and all of that you have considered I know .

Best wishes for you & this project. Any help for implementation of this project from our side is really appreciable.

Warm regards

Rajendra Madhav.

UID Scheme

Dear Sir,
Thank you very much for accepting to be the head of one of the India's prestigious project UID. I am sure it would come out to be a grand success under your able guidance.
I this context I would like to bring kind notice one peculiar problem that we are facing today. At present we are supposed to have only one "Residential Address" and there is no provision for having two addresses. Thus all our Identity cards, Driving licences, passport etc should have only a single common address. However, there are certain people who are having more than addresses. For example if you take my case, I am a retired Public servant having a house in my name in Dwarka in New Delhi. Obviously my all my documents are supposed show my address as Dwarka. However, After retirement I with my wife started staying with my son who has got his own house in Green Park New Delhi, and gave my house on rent. Now I may not have any proof of showing Green Park as my residence, and at the same time, if my son decides to shift elsewhere I may again thing of coming back to Dwarka for residing. Now the question arises as what should be shown as my residence, whether Dwarka or Green Park?
I am therefore of the view that keeping in pace with a broader outlook, there should be a provision of keeping more than one address on our records. Not only that, it perhaps may be a better idea to show our past addresses also where we used to stay in past during say last 10 years. I am sure that an UID with a computer card should be able to accommodate all the data required to be stored for this purpose.
In that case no one can question us that why are you showing your Dwarka Address when you are staying at Green Park.
I hope you would kindly accept the reasoning and make provisions for keeping more than one address in your records and if possible vevn the past addresses.
Thanks,

Being an Indian i would also like to help the country in little manner infact I have a product which is a Stamp pad and it gives a BIO - Metrical scan of the fingers & thumb so it could bring down the cost of using a computer instead and easily movable item.

Unique Project to Eradicate Poverty in India and give basic infr

Respected Sir,(Mr. Nandan Nilekani)
Greetings for the Day!

I Mr. Chakravarthy.M, Indian and Bangalorean wish you a very Happy New Year 2010!

We Indian Citizens, firstly congragulate you and proud to have a person like you to take up this prestigious dream project of India "UID" and we have full confidence on you, your team and the govt, that you will acheive this within the given timelines and we offer you our full support and co-operation to all of them who are involved directly or indirectly to make this project success!

We wish you All the Best!

At the same time, I wanted to discuss with you on one unique dream project, where it is a dream to me and to every citizen of India, where I talk about to eradicate poverty and provide or build basic infrastructure, like schools, hospitals, etc where a common or poor person can utilse in rural and remote areas, We can build this, by using with our own efforts and funds and not depending upon on any World Bank funds, or taxes or politicians or subsidies etc... we can do it in a simple way by talking to our own people....

If we do this and if we succeed, then it would be an eye opener to the entire world!

When CHINA can build larger than life infrastructure, provide basic amenities to their people and become one of the most powerful country in the World within a span of 10-15 years, why cant INDIA...

This is my view and idea, but we need a person like you and central support who can understand and support this dream project to make a difference.

Please let me know your valuable views and comments, so that I can write to you more on this.

Warm Regards
Chakravarthy.M

Great and Unique Work

Dear Sir,

I am following you and your articles, presentations etc.But today writing you on a very grass-root suggestion for implementing UIDI project on your blog.I know you are doing a great contribution, putting your stack on such project which most of the people already started predicting as failure.

Since scope of this implementation on the grassroot level, we had exceptional example in India, as i also worked for such project 5 years back, team led by Mr. GP Singhal, Sr. IAS @ State Finance deptt, and Ms. Arpita, Deputy Director, with a team of about 10-15 Technical folks, we done similar implementation in the most critical Finance deptt and that project going forward won the "Golden-Icon" award and it is successfully running and in the phase II with strict timelines.

I do recommend you looking my experience with that govt systems that you need core folks along with techno-crates in your team who have ground level knowledge and judgement to design it not like the E-Passport project which is going under review third time.

I am right now on a international assignment, worked for the Govt for almost 10+ years and express my thoughts of that implementation.

Let me know if you need any contributions in this project my side considering this as a time to show IT patriotism, I know which need political acceptance at the time of implementation. As per my personal opinion this is the time to contribute in this task to prove that Indian IT professionals are not only working for the international Govt. but they are contributing for the redefining processes in their countries also.

I dont want people show Hyderabad,Mumbai Traffic YouTube Capsules on their Desktop when ever "outsourcing" word is used in the industry.

All the best!!

Regards,

About your UIDIA

People cheat such schemes a lot.I heard you on NDTV you foccussed on taking help of pancard offices and all may be for different class of people let say for gov officials and corporates but most of the time people dont provide correct
information and they could easily cheat.so i suppose there must be a seperate authority that should verify without cheating and a company like infosys's help could be taken. If verification part is credible, is done very well,Next 10 years down the line we can have a technology we can provide cards and make people to maintain that and like GPS we can track people and a non indian terrorist or culprit could be easily sorted out.secondly for poor people possibly schemes could be directly implemented for them by having an account for them. But there verification has to be done carefully, independently, transparently without political influence so it must be given to credible authority not to government offices.
