Ahmadinejad Win in the Iran Election of 2009
The current president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has won re-election in Iran, it is told by the State media. The Iranian Presidential election 2009 is the 10th open presidential election in the country’s history. Ahmadinejad has won by almost two-thirds of the total votes. The votes were given by nearly 46 million eligible voters.
There were four candidates hoping to win the election. They were Mir-Hossein Mousavi, previous Prime Minister, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the previous speaker Mehdi Karroubi and the ex-commander of Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Mohsen Rezaei. It was assumed that Mousavi and Ahmadinejad would be the real challengers in the election.
The interior ministry tells that almost 75% of eligible voters went to give the polls for voting. On Friday voting was extended by 4 hours as there were several peoples left for giving the vote. The challenger of Ahmadinejad was Mousavi but he received nearly 31% of the total votes. Mousavi is refusing to accept the defeat. He claims that there was shortage of ballot papers and millions of people had not given their votes. He also tells that Iranian Government wants Ahmadinejad to get the power and so he will chase this matter.
Obama was very excited to know the results of the election when elections were held in Iraq. He wanted to know that what changes will take place by the new President of Iraq in the future. The supporters of both the President of Iran, Ahmadinejad and Mousavi declare victory after the polls were closed. For more information click here.
