California Supreme Court‎ take Prop 8 Decision against same-sex marriage

The California Supreme Court upheld the voter approved ban on same-sex marriage on May 26, 2009. Ending a six month legal battle, the California Supreme Court left whole the unions of gay and lesbian couples who wed last year.

About 18,000 were left in dividing line who had been married between May and November of 2008.The court must also decide whether to uphold those marriages. 

California Supreme Court Prop 8 Decision

Proposition 8 was a state constitutional amendment entitled “Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry Act” whose proponents aim to dominate the Court's decision.  Decision took over by the result of California general election ballot which passed with a 52% majority.

The measure restoring the same-sex marriage ban on after the state Supreme Court approved such marriages. The announced decision caused a protest among the thousands of supporters who had been waiting in front of the San Francisco courthouse. For more information click here
