A Yemenia Airlines flight with more than 150 people, which was going from the Arabian Peninsula country of Yemen to the island nation of Comoros, has crashed in the Indian Ocean, a Yemen airport official told on Tuesday morning. It is believed that all the 150 people are died in this crash. Comoros vice-president Idi Nadhoim told that the accident happened in the early hours of Tuesday, but he could not give any more details. The official told that the plane was going from the Yemen capital Sanaa to Moroni, on the main island of Grand Comoros and the passengers of the plane were believed to be Comoros residents who were returning from Paris. There were 143 passengers and 11 crews, a total of nearly 154 people in the Airbus A310. A spokeswoman from a Paris airport told that a Yemenia flight left Paris on Monday morning before landing in Yemen and then taking off for Moroni. A representative from regional air security body, Ibrahim Kassim told that plane had probably come down 5 to 10 km (3 to 6 miles) from the coast so they think that the crash happened during the landing of the airlines. The weather was not favorable and sea was very rough. They have sent military boats for searching to an area between the village of Ntsaoueni and the airport. Interior Minister Hamid Bourhane told Reuters that the army had sent small speedboats and there is no information about whether there are any survivors. A medical worker in Mitsamiouli was called up to come in the hospital when the plane crashed. According to flight schedules website, Yemenia is 51% owned by Yemeni government and 49% by Saudi Arabian government and Yemenia's fleet includes two Airbus 330-200s, four Airbus 310-300s and four Boeing 737-800s. The cause remains under investigation about the crash of the flight and search is going on. |
