Winter Olympic luger killed in crash : Nodar Kumaritashvili Crash VIDEO

21 years old, Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili has been killed in a terrible crash on Friday during a training run, just hours before the official beginning of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games were due to start in Vancouver. It is sad Olympic news that Luger is killed in crash and it was considered that the race track he was practicing is one of the fastest track in the world. Nodar Kumaritashvili lost control of his sled so it left the Olympic track, went over a track wall, and struck an unpadded steel pole at high-speed at Whistler Sliding Center. At the time of the crash happened, he was traveling at speeds bigger than 90 miles per hour.

The young athlete was airlifted to a Whistler hospital, in Canada with blood pouring from a head wound and provided emergency resuscitation treatment, but doctors were unable to save his life and he was declared dead. Training was instantly suspended after the accident occurred.

The head of the IOC, Jacques Rogge visibly upset, said at a hurriedly convened news conference "I have no words to say," and tears rolled down from his eyes so he could not complete his statement. At the same time, the head of VANOC, John Furlong stepped in and said "I am so sorry to be in this position reporting this to you. Our thoughts and our prayers are with Nodar's family, the athletes in Georgia....The accident is traffic and will be investigated."

During preparation for the Winter Olympics in history, British luger Kazimierz Kay-Skrzypeski, skier Ross Milne and speed skier Nicolas Bochatay are the persons who died.
