The internet is buzzed with the news of the retirement of the Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. On August 23, 2013 Microsoft has announced the retirement news, that Steve Ballmer is retiring from the company within the 12 months. Steve Ballmer retirement date is not confirmed yet. Steve has joined the Microsoft in 1980 and started serving as a CEO after the retirement of Bill Gates. So you can call this as an end of era for the Steve. Steve has also worked in Procter & Gamble Co before joining Microsoft.
Steve has made many past efforts to become a leader in provider of services and devices rather than giving priority to software sales. In a Microsoft press released confirming the news of his retirement he said, “There is never a perfect time for this type of transition, but now is the right time”. The investors of the company welcome the news of the retirement as the share of the company goes up 7% to $34.75, in 4 Pm on Friday. The major success during the Steve tenure is Microsoft's Xbox videogame business. Serving as a CEO he had faced many criticisms due to fall in the stock rate during his tenure.
To decide the next CEO, the Board of Directors of the company has formed a committee and the committee also includes Chairman of the Board Bill Gates, Chairman of the Audit Committee Chuck Noski and Chairman of the Compensation Committee Steve Luczo. The committee is headed by John Thompson.
The expected name that can be the next CEO includes Julie Larson-Green, who is an executive vice president in charge of devices and studios. She is working in Microsoft for 20 years. The next expected candidate for this race is Steven Sinofsky, who is Former Windows boss. Another that comes in the list is Kevin Turner, the chief operating officer. Stephen Elop chief executive officer of Nokia Corporation could be the next CEO. Another name that comes in the list of the potential candidate is Satya Nadella who has worked in various division of the company and he is responsible for developing tools and cloud services. Another name that came in mind for the CEO is Tony Bates, who is the chief Vice president of Microsoft.
