West Bengal Cyclone “Aila” killed 12
Today the cyclone “Aila” hits West Bengal at 11 am with a wind speed of 80 km per hour. There where twelve persons were killed and fifteen injured by this severe cyclone. The Cyclone was come with high-velocity of winds and a heavy rain which was milled the areas of the eastern Indian state of West Bengal. It was the second storm in the Bay of Bengal in less than one month.
West Bengal government has declared a red alert in the state. The Indian Army starts rescue operations in the coastal South, Parganas district where extensive damage was feared as cyclone Aila crossed the coast into West Bengal. Cyclone storm came with a speed of 55 km per hour uprooted trees at around 50 places and blocking major roads. Additionally the rains caused water logging in large parts of the city.
Train services were also severely affected in the south Section of the Sealdah division. With fallen trees blocking tracks at four stations in the Kharagpur-Howrah section. Air services also were stopped by the 14hrs.Kolkata Police has urged all schools to declare a holiday after 2 o' clock and many officers in the city declared a holiday.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee have articulated apprehensions over the situation in West Bengal.
