On 2 July, the 2011 Tour de France started with a 180-kilometre first stage at the Passage du Gois. It was the 98th Tour de France and ended on 24 July 2011 at the Champs-Elysées in Paris. On Sunday, 24 July, Cadel Evans crossed the finish line in the yellow jersey and became the first Australian to capture cycling's most prestigious title by winning the Tour de France 2011. The 34-year-old, post-war winner, Evans won the 21- stage event 2011 Tour de France by 1 minute, 34 seconds and became the first southern-hemisphere champion. Previously, Evans had lost the race two times by less than a minute and gained a reputation for attracting misfortune. But, the Tour de France victory of Cadel Evans marked Australia’s arrival as a chief player in world cycling. Cadel Evans Wins Tour De France video from Youtube: |
