Thai army moves against red shirts

Thai security forces moved to clear anti-government protesters at Bangkok in a series of violent clashes following a period of at least one dead and wounded nine.
Tear gas was fired on Friday as troops moved so called red T-shirts at a checkpoint set up by their main camp in the central business district Rajprasong.
"They have intimidated the authorities with weapons, so security officials have asked the commander to disperse them," Sunsern Kaewkumnerd, an army spokesman told AFP news agency.Military vehicles and a bus were reportedly set on fire as the red T-shirts try to stop troops.
The demonstrators had gathered outside the Suan Lum Night Market to prevent the soldiers towards the main site, which in turn is enclosed by security forces.
Electricity was off to the capital in an apparent attempt to force protesters and swollen parts of the city railway system was closed, also on Sukhumvit Road, a major tourist area.
Thai troops tear gas as they advanced to a checkpoint at the protest Friday evening after a battle that killed 11 and wounded, including a rogue general, if a violent political crisis worsen.
The demonstrators had gathered outside the famous Suan Lum Night Market to prevent the soldiers towards their main camp near the usually bustling business district was tense and quiet.
Soldiers were seen with tear gas and water cannons at the intersection of Nana, filled with boutiques and adrenaline-pumping go-go bars.
