Today, Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan was under arrest for two hours at Newark Airport in New Jersey in the US. He was under arrest on the grounds that his surname 'Khan' was on the alert list of airport officials. Shahrukh Khan was released after the intervention of Congress MP Rajeev Shukla and other Indian diplomats in the US. Today he is visiting the US to participate an Indian Independence Day event as the guest of honor. He was believed to have been stopped at the airport after it was found that his surname figured on the suspect list. On the airport Khan was faced a bounty questions about the purpose of his visit. And his luggage was checked and he was not even allowed to make a phone call to about an hour. Shahrukh confessed that he became "greatly worried" when the American officials piled him with questions, mainly about his travel to the US. After the released SRK given a statement in news daily, and said “I told them I was a movie star and had recently visited the country for the shooting of my film. Nothing seemed to convince the immigration officer. There were other immigration officers who even vouched for me but this particular officer did not listen to anyone. I even told them I had an invitation from the South Asian community and was there to attend an event.” The actor’s rescue condemned Shukla saying, "It is really not fair. Just because he has a common surname does not mean that every Muslim can be taken as a suspect or considered to be a terrorist. The American authorities should adopt a methodology so that well-known names like Shahrukh Khan and APJ Abdul Kalam are not harassed like this. They should focus on getting the actual suspects.’’ Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar, who is a close friend of Shah Rukh, said in Mumbai,"I am shocked and upset. I am feeling terrible." |
