WHY YOU MIGHT LIKE IT: The biggest misconception about Friday Night Lights is that it's a show about football. True, it follows a high-school football team in the small, fictional town of Dillon, Texas—but at heart, Friday Night Lights is purely about the relationships between family members, friends, and acquaintances in a town where everybody knows everybody elsetown where everybody knows everybody else. The show also has a unique filming style, using three cameras and no marks (which tell actors where they're supposed to stand). The result is truly organic; actors are able to play scenes as they see fit. No other network show feels as real as Friday Night Lights, and the ensemble cast flourishes as a result. Pay particular attention to Emmy-snubbed Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton as Eric and Tami Taylor, television's best married couple. |
