Santa Anna's Artificial Leg PicturesSanta Anna was a Mexican political leader and son of a respected Spanish colonial family. His full name was Antonio de Padua Maria Severino Lopez de Santa Anna y Perez de Lebron. Santa Anna was died in Mexico City on June 21, 1876 due to heartbroken and penniless. He became an army cadet at the age of only sixteen, his first fight was against the Spain for independence. He became the second lieutenant in 1812, and the first lieutenant before the end of the year. Santa Anna lost half of his left leg in the French Pastry war, that was fought between France and Mexico in 1838. Santa Anna succeeded in driving off the French but lost a leg to a cannon ball in the battle. He had got hit on the leg and hand by a cannon fire, then he used a cork leg. Santa Anna hobbled away to fight another day. The Mexican army Illinois Volunteer Infantry captured the artificial leg of Santa Anna in 1847. Santa Anna is one of the main characters in the 2004 movie "The Alamo", portrayed by Emilio Echevarría.
