Rom Houben was trapped in his own body for 23 years

You may have heard about the coma patient or paralyzed persons but you never thought about the person who has paralyzed body with conscious mind and no one knew about it. Rom Houben, an engineering student was trapped in his paralyzed body after a car crash. Houben, 46 years old was badly injured in 1983. He was unable to communicate with his family or doctors but actually his brain remains conscious all the time. He could only listen as he lost his control of body. The neurologist, steven Laureys has identified that his brain was functioning normally before three years by hi-tech scanning system.

Now, he can communicate with one finger due to special touchscreen on his wheelchair. With the help of special keyboard, he has typed his thoughts and pain about the past two and a half decade which was very heart touching. He has also developed some movement with the help of extreme physiotherapy from the last three years. He has been also provided with a special device above his bed by which he can read books. Generally, it is estimated that 3000 to 5000 people remain trapped this way in a year and there is more chances to live without coming back to normal life. He wants to write a book which gives detail about his trauma and his rebirth.
