Robert Schimmel Arrested In Assault Case

The 59 year old author and Comedian Robert Schimmel was arrested on suspicion of beating up his wife Malissa Schimmel on Saturday, April 2, 2009 in Los Angeles. He was taken into custody early morning after a fight at his home in Calabasas, California.

Schimmel was booked in the county jail for investigation of spousal assault. He was later released on $50,000 bail. Calabasas police were called to Schimmel’s home because of an argument that allegedly had turned violent.

Melissa is Robert’s second wife, he met Melissa through his daughter Jessica Schimmel, who is Jessica's friend and just two years her senior. He divorced his first wife Viki. His son was died of leukemia at the age of 11 year. He allegedly met Melissa during one of his hospital stays with the disease.

Robert wrote the book, "Cancer on $5 a Day" chronicles his battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in the book He has appeared on Howard Stern's radio show and Conan O'Brien's old talk show on HBO.
