The picture seems to confirm earlier claims of violence against Rihanna.

A photo purportedly of Rihanna's face with bruises, scratches and swelling of an attack allegedly by boyfriend Chris Brown was sent on Thursday night of Celebrity tmZ website.

The first image shows a flat edge on eyebrows every woman, the marks on his cheeks and around their lips, and generalized swelling. TMZ did not say how he obtained the picture was taken when or by whom.

Within hours of posting the photo, the Police Department of Los Angeles launched an internal investigation and requested the public to help find the person who leaked the photo. A policeman said the press release gives the impression the photo taken during an investigation of domestic violence and are classified as their release fireable cases of "serious misconduct".

Asked earlier Thursday whether he could confirm the source of the photo, LAPD Officer Jason Lee said the department had not released photos of the woman who accused Brown of not releasing evidence and photos. A spokesman for the district attorney said that all evidence concerning the case was still with the police.

February 8 Brown was arrested and booked on suspicion of criminal threats against the betrayal of a woman, the authorities have not identified publicly. A person familiar with the situation that was not authorized to speak publicly about the case and requested anonymity, confirmed that the woman was Rihanna, whose real name Robyn Fenty.
