Philippine news update: typhoon Ondoy floods Manila VIDEOS

It is the worst natural disaster the country has experienced in recent years. But it was a calamity that is unexpected as typhoon Ondoy is a relatively weak storm compared to the howlers we've had in the past years. But what it brought was not the devastating winds that usually bring the damage but record breaking rainfall that caused massive flooding all around Luzon, most especially in Metro Manila. The rainfall brought by typhoon Ondoy (international code name Ketsana) to Metro Manila and nearby areas in a span of six hours was the most in recorded history, surpassing the previous record for the metropolis in
1967, a weather bureau statement said. The six-hour tally, from 8 AM to 2 PM, which measured 341 millimeters, broke the previous record for the highest 24-hour rainfall of 334 millimeters in Metro Manila recorded by PAGASA in June 1967! That six-hour rainfall almost equaled the average monthly rainfall in Metro Manila at 392 millimeters.

Typhoon Ondoy continues to ravage the Philippines. For news updates on typhoon Ondoy and the floods in Manila, Philippines, check back for more posts on this blog, or you may watch the VIDEOS below.
