An orange colored gator was seen by Sandra Underhill on Wednesday, 5 January 2011 on her way to work in Florida. First she could not believe on her eyes that she saw an orange alligator which lies around in the warm Florida sunshine beside a lake in Venice. She snapped the alligator beside a neighborhood canal. She thought that either the gator is albino (contains lack of pigmentation in skin or hair) or its color has changed due to something in the environment. Image source: articles.orlandosentinel.com When Sylvia saw the gator, she rushed home to get her camera. After snapping the gator, Sylvia called local television station WWBS-TV and a biologist. She wants to send this photograph to her grandkids so they think that she is one of the coolest grandmas in Florida. 74 years old, Sylvia made contact with the local wildlife trapper. The photographs of orange colored gator are being showed to a gator expert by the wildlife commission to know how the gator appears in the strange color. The alligator seems to be covered with something and its color does not appear to be genetic in nature said by Gary Morse with Florida Fish & Wildlife. The reason of color is being discussed. According to Tree Hugger the color of gator could be part of albino. District manager for a Sarasota, Fla., wildlife control company, Geoff Isles is also confused about the color of gator. Geoff Isles said that he has no idea about how to color an alligator especially a normal skin-toned alligator in his normal condition. Sylvia Mythen said that the biologist wondered to see the alligator that was probably somewhere between an albino and a normal alligator. The biologist also said that orange alligators are very rare. |
