National Film Awards 2009 India - Best Movie Kanchivaram

The National Film Awards is the most prominent film award ceremony in India. In this year Best Indian National Film Awards mostly goes to south. Film maker Priyadarshan's Tamil film 'Kanchivaram', a period drama about silk weavers of the Tamil Nadu, was chosen as the best movie at the 55th National Film Awards 2009.

Kanchivaram Tamil Movie won the Best Movie and Best Actor for Prakash Raj. Tamil actor Prakash Raj beat off competition from Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan to bag the Best Actor award for his role in 'Kanchivaram', which depicts the lives of silk weavers of Kanchipuram during the pre-Independence era.
