Maine is considered as lobster breadbasket of the United State and 80 percent of the U.S. involved in catch of seafood therefore it is recognized as Maine lobster. Lobster harvest in Maine was amounted at 245.3 million pounds that was valued at $448.7 million in the last year. Fishing of shrimp season in New England will close down seven weeks earlier than regularly at 28th of Feb due to payment of lobstermen in Maine. Lobster Harvest of 2010 is the third highest on the record as lobstermen receive $3.31 a pound for their catch. Therefore 2005 year is considered as top on the record with harvest value of $317.9 to lobstermen. In 2010, the seafood harvest is increased by 14 million pounds compared to the year 2009 and the value augmented by $120 million. Seafood harvest was recorded 81.2 million pounds in 2009 year. |
