Currently, US-led research team has found the location of the lost city of Atlantis, the legendary metropolis which was cleaned by a tsunami thousand of years ago in Mud flats in Southern Spain. 2600 years ago, the lost city of Atlantis was described by Plato, a Greek philosopher as island at that time the city was situated near the “pillars of Hercules,” which classical scholars say is the Strait of Gibraltar.

Head researcher Richard Freund who is the professor of Hartford University, Connecticut told Reuters, “This is the Power of tsunamis. It is just so hard to understand that it can wipe out 60 miles inland, and that's pretty much what we're talking about.”

To resolve the atlantics mystery the US research team used a satellite photo of a suspected flooded city to discover the location just north of Cadiz, Spain. There, hidden in the enormous marshlands of the Donana Park, they think that they indentified the ancient, multi-ringed power known as Atlantis. In 2009 and 2010, the archaeologists and geologists teams surveyed the site for evidence by using digital mapping, deep-ground radar and underwater technology.

From farther north, the research team also discovered artifact that hint refugees may have established a second city where they created superb artworks to memorialize the one they lost. The team’s findings has been released on Sunday (13th March, 2011) in "Finding Atlantis," a new National Geographic Channel special.
