Yesterday night the 1st and the longest lunar eclipse of 2011 took place. People throughout the world have witnessed the eclipse even the weather had prevented to see the eclipse for full 100 minutes. The celestial spectacle was seen in South America, Eastern Asia, Philippines, Western Africa, Europe, Western Asia and Australia but it was not seen in North America because of geographical location. The lunar eclipse began at 1724 GMT and ended at 2300 GMT. From 1922 GMT to 2102 GMT, the eclipse totally covered the face of lunar. It was seen rising over Western Africa, South America and Europe and setting over Eastern Asia while in Philippines, western Asia and Australia, it was seen just before sunrise. The longest lunar eclipse of 2011 turned the moon dusky blood red which amazed the skywatchers throughout the world. Generally moon turns brown but this time, it turns into a reddish coppery-color, tinged by light of the Sun. It was the longest event happened in 11 years and won’t take place again till 27, July 2018. It was the 1st lunar eclipse of 2011 while 2nd will be on 10th December, 2011.
