Kevin Grubb was found dead on Wednesday in a room at the Alpine Hotel near Richmond, He was 31 years old he was suspended from NASCAR indefinitely in 2006 because he refused to submit to a random drug test following the Busch Series race at Richmond International Raceway. NASCAR driver Kevin Grubb died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Perry said they found no indication of any drug use inside the room, but toxicology results may not be available for up to six weeks. Kevin Grubb was previously suspended in March 2004 for failing a drug test. But he agreed to random testing as part of his reinstatement. Grubb's career began with NASCAR's lower-tier series in 1997.Police said there were no indications of any drug use found inside the room. A toxicology test was done, but could take up to six weeks before results are known. Grubb was indefinitely suspended by NASCAR on Sept. 11, 2006 after his second violation of NASCAR's substance abuse policy. The suspension in 2006 came after Grubb refused to take a drug test following a second-lap crash at Richmond. Failure to take the tests is considered an automatic failed test.On September 11, 2006 Grubb crashed on the second lap of a Nationwide Series event at Richmond and refused to take a NASCAR mandated drug test after the accident. The next day Grubb claimed that he declined the test because of a concussion suffered during the accident and offered to take a test at that time. He reportedly claimed no memory of the refusal due to the head injury. In March 2004 Grubb failed a NASCAR mandated drug test and was suspended indefinitely by the sanctioning body. He was reinstated by NASCAR in 2006 and returned to compete in the Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series. |
