Hunger strike ends by Karunanidhi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi ended hunger strike on April 27,2009 in Chennai at Tamilnadu. It was about demand a ceasefire in Sri Lanka. It was an indefinite fast at the memorial of late C N Annadurai early Monday morning and his son M K Azhagiri was also.

Dr. Singh assured Karunanidhi that  government is in touch with Colombo.Sonia Gandhi called supremo from West Bengal and expressed light of Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka. Karunanidhi had clarified that the priority was not to ban LTTE, but to save lives of thousands of Sri Lankan Tamils.

Karunanidhi had urged by telephone to  Dr. Singh, Sonia Gandhi and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee the Indian Government have to issue a warning to Colombo to halt the war in Lanka immediately.

Previous week,National Security Adviser M.K Narayanan and Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon visited Sri Lanka and urged to president that closing chapter of a 25 year war in which around 6,500 civilian lost their lives since Feb.2009.
